LogoS, Italian Progressive Rock between tradition and innovation

LogoS, an Italian progressive rock band from Verona, have been active since 1996 and are famous for their sound reminiscent of Italian progressive rock from the 1970s. The band was formed in Verona as a cover band of classic Italian prog groups, particularly Le Orme and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. The core lineup was formed around Luca Zerman (keyboards and vocals), Fabio Gaspari (bass and vocals), and Alessandro Perbellini (drums).
In 1999 they released their self-titled debut album, “Logos”, with original tracks, followed by “Asrava” in 2001. After a long break, they returned in 2014 with the concept album “L’enigma della vita”, a beautiful album to which I dedicated a review, and which received excellent feedback from the international press. In 2020 they released “Sadako e le mille gru di carta”, a concept album focused on the story of Sadako Sasaki.
LogoS’s music is characterized by an intense use of keyboards (Hammond, synthesizers) and a symphonic/progressive style, recalling the sounds of classic Italian prog, but also international bands like Genesis and King Crimson. The lyrics explore philosophical, fantasy, and reflective themes, often structured as concept albums.
The current lineup consists of Luca Zerman (keyboards and vocals), Fabio Gaspari (bass and vocals), Claudio Antolini (keyboards), and Alessandro Perbellini (drums). Massimo Maoli participated as guitarist and guest musician.
LogoS are a band that blends classic Italian Progressive Rock (RPI) with modern influences and symphonic atmospheres, creating a truly unique sound. Imagine a mix of keyboards, synths, Hammond organ, and piano intertwining to form complex and majestic soundscapes, like a musical painting. Their songs are often long suites, which can exceed 20 minutes, with many tempo changes and atmospheres ranging from delicate acoustic to energetic rock—a real musical journey!
Despite the technical complexity, LogoS never lose sight of melody and lyricism, typical features of Italian prog. The lyrics, in Italian, address deep and important themes, such as philosophical, historical, and social topics. A perfect example is their concept album “Sadako e le mille gru di carta”, dedicated to the memory of Hiroshima, a touching and meaningful work.
The band draws inspiration from various sources. From Le Orme and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso they take the symphonic use of keyboards and song structure, while from Genesis (with Peter Gabriel) the narrative approach and acoustic guitar textures. From King Crimson, instead, the rhythmic experimentation and the darker, sharper passages. And let’s not forget the more modern sounds, close to the New Prog of the ’80s and ’90s, which can be heard in albums like “L’Enigma della Vita”.
In short, LogoS are a band that knows how to blend tradition and innovation, creating music that moves and makes you think.
