Singlelito: Neo-Canterbury and International Avant-Prog

Juan José Pinto Abadía, known by his stage name Singlelito, is a Colombian multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer born in 2006 in Magangué. Despite his young age, he is considered one of the most promising figures in the modern international Neo-Canterbury and Avant-Prog scene.

He began composing music in 2019, learning to play guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums in his home studio before his debut album, Nanrojo, in 2020. The album was recorded entirely with a smartphone and video editing software to handle multitracking, resulting in a distinctive lo-fi sound.

In 2024, he moved to Barranquilla to study music at the Universidad del Norte, the beginning of a technical maturation that led him to record between his hometown and the university city.

The Singlelito project reached progressive rock fans with the prolific Spanish label áMARXE in 2025 with the album Non-Consciousness.

The nickname Singlelito was coined by Juan José Pinto Abadía as a combination of "Single" (single/solo) due to the project's utterly solitary nature, and "lito," the Spanish diminutive suffix common in words like pablito or juanito, to convey a more intimate, almost childlike, and "small" tone, contrasting with the grandiose nature of the genre he explores: Prog.

The name appears to have emerged during his first recording experiments in 2019, when he realized that, not having a band, he needed to be a "small, single artist" capable of doing everything on his own. And he succeeded remarkably.

Singlelito writes, performs every instrument, mixes, and personally designs the artwork for his works. His musical style blends classic progressive rock with the Canterbury School, Zeuhl, and psychedelic pop, featuring classic instrumentation for the genre, vintage organs filtered with a distinctive fuzz sound, extensive use (but never overuse) of complex odd time signatures, and a remarkable voice capable of moving from dreamy melodies to extreme experimentation, always with great interpretive skill and often with theatrically charged performances.
