Kanaan is a Norwegian psychedelic trio with a jazz and psychedelic sound that stems primarily from jamming.
The band, founded in Oslo in 2018, is composed of
Ask Vatn Strøm, guitar
Ingvald André, drums
Eskild Myrvoll, bass
Along with great riffs, we find jams, great compositions and structured songs, but also improvisations and experimentation, and above all, fuzz and powerful bass like Downpour.
Great musicians, excellent guitar and drums, the bassist also plays synth and enriches the sound with space rock, noises, and harmonium parts. His bass sound is full of harmonics, with almost "drone" characteristics typical of 1960s psychedelic rock, often resembling that of a broken amplifier, giving every note incredible sustain.
Their work powerfully highlights the combination of heavy and distorted sounds with psychedelia.
An aggressive sound, characterized by slow tempos, a heavy atmosphere with low tunings, a powerful electric bass, melodic passages, and a production reminiscent of more vintage sounds, with (intentional) lounge noises, the jack dropping out, the amp fading out, the electronic noise of silence.
Distorted guitar tones and heavy bass lines, great execution that doesn't leave the melody in the background, but not always, great exploration of sounds without sacrificing complexity, a great naturalness and spontaneity despite the beautiful structure.
A band that holds the bar very high for psychedelic progressive rock and space rock.
