The Kanaan are a Norwegian psychedelic trio, with a Jazz and Psychedelic sound born mainly from jamming.
A band founded in Oslo in 2018, it is made up of
- Ask Vatn Strøm, guitar
- Ingvald André, drums
- Eskild Myrvoll, bass
Alongside big riffs we find jams, we find great compositions and structured tracks, but also improvisation and experimentation, and above all fuzz and powerful basslines like Downpour .
Great musicians, excellent guitar and drums; the bassist also plays synth and enriches the sound with Space Rock tones, noises and harmonium parts, while his bass sound is full of harmonics, with an almost “drone” character typical of ’60s psychedelic rock, with sounds often similar to those from a broken amplifier, giving every note an incredible sustain.
In their work, the union of Heavy, distorted sounds with psychedelia is powerfully exalted.
An aggressive sound, marked by slow tempos, with a heavy atmosphere and low tunings, a powerful electric bass, melodic phases and a production that recalls more vintage sonorities, with (intentional) rehearsal-room noises: the jack coming loose, the amp switching off, the electronic noise of silence.
Distorted guitar tones and heavy bass lines, great playing skill that doesn’t leave melody in the background—though not always—huge sound research without giving up complexity, great naturalness and spontaneity despite the solid structure.
A band that keeps the bar very high for Psychedelic Progressive Rock and Space Rock.
