20.000 Leghe Sotto i Mari by Nuova Era, an excellent album released in 2025.
An Italian band that has split up and reunited several times, active in the '80s and '90s and at the forefront of a new era of Italian progressive rock. A symphonic quartet with a lyricist, their sound is influenced by the legendary '70s bands, performed with modern instruments and tools.
The album is clearly inspired by the science fiction novel by French writer Jules Verne, and between vocals and instrumental tracks, it transports us to mysterious atmospheres rich with epic meaning.
The sound is not typical of Italian prog bands, but rather closer to British prog. The performances by these great musicians are excellent, and the compositions are, in my opinion, perfect.
I find the piano and keyboards particularly inspired, with an extraordinary Walter Pini, the absolutely effective rhythm section with Rudy Greco and Maurizio Marra, and Alex Camaiti on guitars and truly imposing vocals.
A single song lasting over 36 minutes, divided into eight acts between Side A and Side B, for one of the most famous and fascinating journeys in French and world literature, which began with the sounds and noises of the sea and return recurringly. Great mellotron, very moving melodies.
Super-colorful, comic-book-style artwork in which the four musicians play as four divers on the seabed.
A great return, nine years after their last album and 10 years after their masterpiece, Il Passo del Soldato.
Highly recommended!!!
