whatsapp-image-2025-08-19-at-12.34.14.jpeg

Epilog, the second studio album by the Swedish progressive rock band Änglagård, from 1994.

It is a dark, completely instrumental work, in my opinion brilliant, superbly composed, with atmospheres that alternate mystery and unease with peace and calm, featuring sudden tempo changes and magnificent odd time signatures, as well as melancholic melodies on piano and flute. It's yet another masterpiece, showcasing the same great technical prowess as its predecessor.

The album offers us splendid alternations, slow and melancholic beginnings that flow into continuous choral progressions with great creativity and excellent use of percussion.

An album that should have been the final chapter of Änglagård, the Epilogue (hence the name), but that wasn't the case. Subsequently, Viljans Öga was released, a beautiful 2012 work that we've already discussed along with the band's other albums.

Six tracks totaling 43 minutes, featuring the same lineup as their debut album, Hybris—two guitars, a bass, a drum kit, a keyboard, and a flute—plus a classical quartet.

Beautiful tracks include "Hostejd" and, especially, "Skogsranden."
"Sista Somrar," the one that most harks back to the classic '70s sound, is also featured.

"Saknadens fullhet" closes the album melancholically with just piano.

The Mellotron is beautiful, along with the guitar arpeggios and flute. The electric guitar is excellent, as is the rhythm section, especially the drums.

A MUST for any progressive rock fan, a work by one of the best bands of the 1990s who sparked a new era of prog in Scandinavia—what I call Northern Prog—and in music.

Excellent work that I recommend to... Everyone.

The Tracks
1. Prolog (2:00)
2. Höstsejd (Rites of Fall) (3.32pm)
3. Rösten (The Voice) (0:14)
4. Skogsranden (Eaves of the Forest) (10:48)
5. Sista Somrar (The Last Summer) (1.10pm)
6. Saknadens Fullhet (The Fullness of Longing) (2:00)
Duration 43:44
