Phantom Island, by Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, was released in 2025 and recorded concurrently with their previous album, Flight B741, released in 2024.
Phantom Island has an orchestral sound, a collaboration between the eclectic band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and the LA Philharmonic Orchestra.
It's a journey to a Phantom Island, an impossible and unknown destination, so the album is imbued with a sense of melancholy and a lack of direction, and the sound is less aggressive than other albums by the same band.
"Deadstick," the album's lead single, is extremely catchy, as is "Spacesick." We also get a beautiful ballad, "Aerodynamic," and a soft atmosphere with "Silent Spirit," as well as a beautiful funky sound with "Eternal Return." All this in a mood that blends psychedelic rock and jazz throughout the album, with a consistently high level of musical exploration, alternating between soft and decidedly energetic sections, with no lesser tracks and a consistent quality.
A very prolific band that never disappoints.
Highly recommended album!
