Jordsjø, an Oslo-based band active since 2014, helps keep symphonic rock alive by combining different genres in a new and beautiful form.
This Norwegian duo expresses itself in a symphonic rock style typical of the mountains and Scandinavian atmospheres, with a pastoral and orchestral feel—a great example of Northern Prog.
Beautiful old-style progressive rock, vintage keyboards, and a beautiful voice with Norwegian vocals that perfectly suit this genre and give it an archaic, mysterious, epic, and very believable tone. The flute, keyboards, and percussion are superb, as is the guitar with beautiful solos, Genesis-esque keyboards, and a sound that constantly shifts rhythm and atmosphere.
The core lineup consists of
- HÃ¥kon Oftung - vocals, guitar, keyboards, flute
- Kristian Frøland - drums and percussion
Various guests enrich the sound on various albums.
The collaborative project with Breidablik, another Norwegian band active since 2012, influenced by the Berlin School and ambient music, is a wonderful one. The albums resulting from this collaboration are generally divided into two parts, one entirely played by Breidablik and the other by Jordsjø, seeking to synthesise the bands' shared influences, yet with their different approaches to progressive rock.
