Pineapple Thief's "Dissolution," a 2018 album.
Pineapple Thief is a British band founded in 1999 by Bruce Soord. Originally a solo project, the band evolved to include Jon Sykes (bass), Steve Kitch (keyboards), and, since 2017, drummer  Gavin Harrison, who joined the band on drums. This marked a significant evolution that led to a more collaborative songwriting process. Their sound is characterized by great emotional intensity and introspection, expressed through complex compositions.
The current lineup for this album is as follows:
- Bruce Soord, vocals, guitars, keyboards
- Jon Sykes, bass
- Steve Kitch, keyboards
- Gavin Harrison, drums.

Di§olution is a beautiful album that blends progressive rock and art rock, characterized by a dark and melancholic atmosphere. The album's sound is enhanced by drummer Gavin Harrison, whose precise percussion adds technical brilliance and emotional depth, with a perfect balance between accessible songs and more complex and experimental progressive tracks.
At the time of its release, it was undoubtedly the band's best work to date, with tracks that remain among their finest compositions to this day, such as "White Mist" and "Shed a Light." In my opinion, this album was rivaled only by their most recent work, "It Leads to This," and the subsequent EP "Last to Run," both from 2024. I was fortunate enough to hear them live in Rome on March 28, 2025, a fantastic experience.

Some notes on the tracks
- "Not Naming Any Names" is a short piece of about two minutes, a beautiful piano introduction to the album, with a beautiful melancholic melody.
- "Try As I Might" is a very powerful and engaging rock song with a great rhythm section and a fantastic guitar solo.
- "Threatening War" is a menacing song, featuring Gavin Harrison's fantastic drumming and a sound full of mystery.
- "Uncovering Your Tracks" is a very atmospheric song with a powerful chorus.
- "All That You've Got" is animated by beautiful rock, with a driving groove.
- "Far Below" is a melodic song with a slow, imposing rhythm by Gavin Harrison.
- "Pillar of Salt" is a short acoustic interlude. Pleasant.
- "White Mist" is an eleven-minute song and the album's top track, with emotional atmospheric sections and a magnificent drum solo by Harrison.
- "Shed a Light" closes the album with an atmosphere of hope and a positive message for the future.

Much of the quality of this album's sound is due to Gavin Harrison, whose energy and complexity are sublime in the arrangements, along with guitarist David Torn and his masterful touch, and the founder of this great band, Bruce Soord, with his splendid compositions.

This album confirms their cult status in the British and global progressive scene.
Musically, it seems like an extremely easy and enjoyable album right from the start, but there's a hidden complexity that requires a trained ear to perceive the incredible work behind each instrument. A great work, an absolute must-have in my opinion.
