Jurassic Shift by the Ozric Tentacles released in 1993, a classic, one of the band's best albums, with a refined and energetic sound at the same time, with renewed sonorities compared to the previous releases.
Great instrumental music, with exceptional atmospheric keyboards, funky guitars, and complex rhythms
in an energetic mix of psychedelic space rock, progressive rock, and techno and fusion elements, not far from the space rock of the '70s with a touch of modern electronics.
The bass and drum parts are complex and never repetitive, an excellent solid rhythmic base with occasional Middle Eastern influences.
Some notes on the tracks
- Jurassic Shift, the title track with a dynamic progression from soft sections to refined parts with an oriental sound and a pressing rhythm.
- Vita Voom, one of the fastest and most intense tracks, great sound bordering on hard rock.
- Stretchy, great track with a funky sound.
- Sun Hair with a beautiful opening, powerful and soft at the same time
- Pteranodon with its splendid softer and more atmospheric sections
- Feng Shui with its dance rhythm, driven by congas and the surprising metal finale.
- Train Oasisbano beautiful and very atmospheric.
Their splendid acid guitars, pulsating hypnotic electronics, aggressive percussion, have generated commercial success and a masterpiece of its genre, a fundamental album that brought Ozric Tentacles to wider recognition with a definitive affirmation of their sound.
An album that rewrites the word "psychedelic" thanks to a band in a moment of grace that with this album, in my opinion, reached its peak until the release of their most recent album Lotus Unfolding, from 2023, a peak surpassed after 13 albums and a full 30 years since Jurassic Shift. Incredible how this band knows how to renew itself and always maintain a very high level despite their prolific output.
A Must without any doubt
