"Un’altra mano di carte" (Another Hand of Cards), the second album released in 2025 by Limite Acque Sicure, an Italian band active in Italian Progressive Rock since their self-titled debut in 2022.

This is an excellent concept album that explores themes of marginalization and oppression, stories linked to the search (or dream) for a better life, stories of redemption and pride, with a sense of hope but also of rebellion and its sometimes bitter consequences.

The band was born from a project by Andrea Chendi and Antonello Giovannelli, who are the founders, and then the other members of the group were added, a project born to perform progressive rock songs live, which has seen changes in lineup over time, until the current one active since 2016, through which they began to write their own songs and which led to the publication of two works.

This band has essentially succeeded in realizing the dream of many bands who start out with the goal of playing live concerts, playing covers, while maintaining the aspiration—the dream—of making their own music and establishing themselves. I've tried it several times, but probably not with the same consistency and determination, and certainly without the same skill, judging from what I've heard and what I'm about to describe. They've pulled off another trick. Great!
The album consists of six tracks, all of considerable length, ranging from 7 to 10 minutes but never wordy, for a total running time of approximately 51 minutes.

The artwork is beautiful, associating each band member with a card representing them.

I wasn't familiar with Limite Acque Sicure, and I'm glad I did. This album captures the origins and present of Italian and international prog, along with the exciting elements of classic rock, as well as significant classical influences, with piano, harp, flute, and at times almost lyrical vocals. The performances by all the band members are absolutely excellent, and there's a great balance of presence and sound. The compositions are carefully crafted to blend melodic aspects with those of more complex progressive music.

I will continue to follow this band and will definitely check out their debut album.

Highly recommended!
