An exceptional album in my opinion, Here Be Monsters by Motorpsycho, released in 2016, which I purchased at Jukebox in Ã…lesund, Norway.
Exceptional is the adjective I use most when talking about this band's albums, and this album is no exception. This one in particular is, in my opinion, one of Motorpsycho's finest, with its slower-than-usual songs, but with a truly unique taste and execution, carried away both by the rhythm and the fluidity and passion they convey. These are melodic yet very energetic jams, and the guitar excels on every track.
You can hear the "epic" progressive rock that develops slowly, then changes and grows, and then becomes strongly progressive.
A symphonic and psychedelic rock album with intricate arrangements, highly atmospheric, pervaded by a subtle sense of tension, musicalizing the themes of fear and the "monsters" that people face from childhood.
Space rock with moments of folk, but also hard rock (less than other albums), and a fantastic epic suite, "Big Black Dog," a 17-minute journey from acoustic sections to dark and intense riffs. The Mellotron and piano-driven passages are marvelous, combined with explosive sections featuring the powerful rhythm section.
It contains one of Motorpsycho's most beautiful songs ever, the aforementioned "Big Black Dog," which makes the album a masterpiece.
Beautiful and highly recommended!
