Neu! '75, the beautiful third studio album by the German band Neu!, was released in 1975, following a stint with Michael Rother in Harmonia. This version is included in a beautiful box set released to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary.
To mitigate the stylistic differences between Rother (who leaned toward an ambient sound) and Dinger (who leaned toward a rock sound), the first side was recorded in the "Neu!" style, as a duo, with Dinger on drums. The second side features Dinger on guitar and lead vocals, joined by his brother Thomas and Hans Lampe for simultaneous drumming.
The result was a hybrid album, melodic in the first half and unconventional in the second. The use of keyboards and phasing has increased compared to previous albums.
"Hero," Dinger's "rock" song, inspired many musicians of the time, including John Lydon of the Sex Pistols, and has since been considered a proto-punk song.
After recording, the duo broke up. Their legacy remains.
Listen to it! Beautiful!
