Faust by Faust (1971), a krautrock masterpiece that combines progressive rock and experimental music, creating a unique atmosphere. The tracks are characterized by an unconventional structure and the use of unusual instruments, challenging normal musical conventions with a raw and authentic production.
It is a true journey into avant-garde and psychedelic rock, where the tracks stand out for their complex sonic structures.
Only three experimental tracks are composed using "found" sounds, following the aesthetics of musique concrète.
- Why Don't You Eat Carrots? is a track characterized by experimental sounds, blending electronic music and progressive rock.
- Meadow Meal is a typical Faust track, featuring a chaotic yet structured mix of avant-garde sounds, including clanging percussion, surreal sung lyrics, and jarring transitions between groove rock and distorted electronics.
"Miss Fortune" is the album's final track, long and chaotic, a collage of distorted guitars, industrial-style rhythms, disturbing electronic experimentation, and spoken word, with a sense of both madness and beauty.
The album had little success in its homeland but was highly appreciated by underground music lovers. Without a doubt, the most extravagant band of the Krautrock movement, their music is not for the faint of heart or difficult to digest for non-fans, but for prog lovers, it's an essential album in their collection, though perhaps not the most recommended for newcomers.
Each track is representative of Faust's creativity, in an album that is a must-have for lovers of avant-garde music.
You either like it or you don't. No gray areas.
I think it's great.
