David Gilmour's Rattle That Lock, released in 2015, marks a significant return, five years after his previous album, for the legendary Pink Floyd guitarist.
This solo album stands out for its blend of enveloping melodies and introspective lyrics, reflecting the artist's personal experiences and emotions. In my opinion, it was one of his best works until the release of the beautiful Luck and Strange in 2024.
The impressive array of guest musicians exemplifies the album's rich instrumental and orchestral sound, including our beloved Robert Wyatt on cornet and the immense Phil Manzanera, who, in addition to Hammond and keyboards, also plays acoustic guitar and co-produced the album.
The title track, "Rattle That Lock," is an energetic and compelling piece, characterized by unmistakable guitar and a chorus that invites attentive listening.
The album's songs range from moments of pure melancholy to bursts of powerful rock, demonstrating Gilmour's renowned versatility as a musician. The song "Faces of Stone" is particularly moving, with a dreamy atmosphere that captivates the listener.
The production is impeccable, with rich arrangements and instrumentation that showcase Gilmour's talent not only as a guitarist but also as a composer.
A deeply poetic, passionate, and captivating album.
Rattle That Lock is a sonic journey that never disappoints, offering a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation. Fans of Gilmour's music will find this album further confirmation of his artistic greatness and ability to move.
