Blackfield V, fifth album by the Blackfield, from 2017.
Blackfield is an art rock project founded in 2000 by Steven Wilson and singer-songwriter Aviv Geffen. Initially, they worked as equal partners, but over time Geffen took on a leading role, particularly starting from the album Welcome to My DNA, from which Geffen began to take a leading role in writing and vocals as Wilson wanted to focus on his solo work.
After Blackfield IV, Wilson continued to contribute in a more passive role, while Geffen worked on new material, including Blackfield V.
The album features the participation of the legendary Alan Parsons who worked on three key tracks on the album, alternating with Wilson but without causing discontinuity; the album is still harmonious and fluid.
The sound is a rich and melodic soft rock, atmospheric with very sophisticated arrangements with beautiful acoustic and electric guitars, piano and string arrangements, and the vocal parts are very beautiful.
An album that I really like with an exciting sound, almost perfect sounds, a positive atmosphere and exceptional production.
The tracks I appreciated the most are Family Man with a beautiful vocal part, How Was Your Ride? with a beautiful melody, Undercover Heart, Lonely Soul and The Jackal.
An album perhaps more "light" than the previous ones, "easy listening" as the experts say, a definition that is not necessarily a negative connotation especially if the authors and producers are people of the caliber of Wilson and Geffen with Parson's touch!
