Storm Corrosion, a collaboration between Opeth's  Mikael Akerfeldt and  Steven Wilson, began in 2001 when Wilson produced Opeth's fifth album, Blackwater Park. This is their only studio album, the self-titled 2012 release.

No tour was undertaken to promote the album, nor have any future plans been established: the two have opted to return to their respective musical projects.

Åkerfeldt on guitar, Wilson on keyboards and arrangement, and  Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree  on drums.

My favorite tracks are:

- "Drag Ropes" with its symphonic mood and stunning acoustic guitar from Åkerfeldt, great piano, and a rhythmic foundation that at times verges on jazz. A great mellotron part and an excellent bass riff.

- "Lock Howl" a pressing and powerful instrumental with great acoustic guitar work, hypnotic and a beautiful psychedelic section.

- Ljudet Innan with an unusual falsetto from Åkerfeldt, an instrumental with new age and jazz influences. A beautiful song.

Despite the reputation of these two leaders in the heavy metal and progressive rock genres, this isn't a progressive metal album; the sound is ambient and orchestral. This may have disappointed many, but not mine. I think it's a beautiful album and hope it gets a follow-up.
