The album, released in 1975, features its iconic cover art depicting a building located at 96-98 St. Mark's Street in the East Village, New York. By swapping the two disc trays, the cover allows for the blank spaces on the outer cover to be filled with different images, including well-known figures, famous paintings, photos of the band, and letters spelling out the album title.

I generally classify Led Zeppelin as not belonging to Progressive Rock, but the theme of Led Zeppelin's affiliation with this genre has always interested me. I see them particularly clearly on this album, with "In My Time of Dying" and the masterpiece "Kashmir," but also "In the Light" and "Down by the Seaside," which to my ears sound like prog or "proggy" songs, nonetheless strongly influenced by it. The other songs, while not prog, seem to have complex structures, perhaps due to the extensive time spent on arranging songs that had been composed long before their release.

A timeless masterpiece with a blend of hard rock, blues, folk, and at times a sound reminiscent of Eastern music, it's probably one of the best albums in rock history.

The album includes previously unreleased tracks from previous sessions as well as new songs.

This album features Jimmy Page at his finest, Robert Plant with some of his finest performances, John Paul Jones's remarkable precision and flair on bass and keyboards, and finally, one of the world's greatest drummers (in my opinion), John Bonham on drums with his extraordinary power and precision.

An essential album for rock lovers, considered by many to be the group's coming-of-age album, which was a huge success and even boosted their previous albums to the charts.

A rock opera.
