Counterparts by the great Rush , one of the best-selling albums in the USA by the Canadian band from 1993, in this version taken from the box set Rush The Albums: 1989-1996 .
An album that tackles difficult themes such as crime, ambition, sadness, dualisms, opposites, and complementarity, particularly in the relationship between men and women. It contains beautiful love songs like Nobody's Hero, the album's semi-acoustic highlight. The track "Speed of Love" is also beautiful, and "Cold Fire" is a great hard rock piece. There are also melodic and intellectual rock songs like "Cut to the Chase" and "Everyday Glory."
At the heart of the album is the guitar and aggressive arrangements with tracks like Stick It Out which is one of the band's "heavy" ones, characterized by a hard and aggressive guitar and lyrics full of anguish.
But there are other hits like Animate, the opening track, beautiful in its simplicity and Double Agent with elements of alternative rock, a piece driven by Lee's splendid bass.
The track Leave That Thing Alone was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Instrumental", deservedly so in my opinion, it's a spectacular instrumental piece.
The album achieves the goal that Neil Peart had set for this album, "finding a balance between sophistication and spontaneity and a rather basic approach to the songs, based on guitar, bass and drums."
One of Rush's best albums, an extraordinary record with excellent production and no weak points. Between Sun and Moon, Cut to the Chase, Leave That Thing Alone and Alien Shore are the strengths in my opinion Warning . I can't close without mentioning Neil, who maintains his immense greatness even on this album.
This album is a must-have for Rush fans, but it's also a must-have for lovers of great music, whether you're a prog fan or not.
Highly recommended !
