Invention of Knowledge, a 2016 collaborative album by Jon Anderson and Roine Stolt, was created under the guidance and patronage of their record label, Inside Out.
The lineup and collaborations are top-notch. In addition to the two renowned masters, Anderson and Roine Stolt, we have:
- Tom Brislin (Kansas and Renaissance, among others)
- Lalle Larsson (The Flower Kings and Karmakanic)
- Jonas Reingold (Karmakanic, The Tangent, The Flower Kings)
- Michael Stolt (The Flower Kings)
- Felix Lehrmann (The Flower Kings)
- Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation, The Flower Kings)
- Nad Sylvan (known for his solo work and with Steve Hackett)
and the wonderful voices of Anja Obermayer, Maria Rerych, and Kristina Westas on backing vocals.
A suite composed of four interconnected songs and Divided into nine acts, with themes that recur and intersect throughout the album, the soul of which is strongly influenced by Andersson and the sound of Yes, both in the melodies and in the bass lines and Stolt's guitar.
The lyrics and vocals are Anderson's in his unmistakable style.
An album that seemed to create a new Yes lineup in sound and intention. It's an excellent album, which in my opinion all prog lovers should listen to.
It would have been nice to see the experiment continue, but it was a unique work. Andersson, however, tried again, with excellent results, just last year, in 2024, with True by Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks.
Recommended!!!
