Demons & Wizards, Uriah Heep's 1972 album, was the first to feature Lee Kerslake and Gary Thain.
This album encompasses rock, blues, hard rock, and even a psychedelic sound. It features epic tracks as well as more dramatic and light-hearted ones, a blend of explosive force, passion, and melancholy.
David Byron's exceptional vocals, Ken Hensley's keyboards, and Mick Box's guitar, creating iconic songs like "The Wizard" and "Easy Livin'," arguably the band's creative peak.
Many consider it one of the best albums of all time, and many believe it truly is. I range across genres, so it's not in my personal top 10, but it's close. I'm confident, however, that it's not only one of their most important albums, containing some of their finest songs, but also one of the most iconic albums of the '70s, as are albums by other legendary figures of the era.
The performances are excellent from all the band members, with special mention for Thain's bass and Byron's vocals. The musical quality is undisputed, as is the beauty of the melodies and the mysterious, fantasy atmosphere they create.
I absolutely recommend this album to everyone, and for those unfamiliar with Uriah Heep, I recommend starting with this one. A must-have for your collection.
