Polygondwanaland, studio album by the prolific King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, released in 2017 as a free download, the fourth in a series of five albums that the band released in the same year, here in a beautiful 2018 vinyl pressing.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are an Australian band devoted to psychedelic and neo-progressive rock, formed in 2010.
Their early style was characterized by “surf music”, “garage rock” and psychedelic rock sounds, but in their extensive discography they have enriched their sound with many influences, exploring microtonal music, progressive rock, folk, jazz, soul, and thrash metal.
This is a beautiful psychedelic rock album with complex arrangements
Some notes on the tracks
- Crumbling Castle is an epic track of about 10 minutes with great guitar riffs and vocals, one of the best tracks on the album and very representative of the band's sound.
- Deserted Dunes Welcome Weary Feet, with the album's psychedelic atmosphere, is the natural continuation of "Crumbling Castle"
- Polygondwanaland has great harmonies and catchy melodies with decidedly unsettling moments.
- The Castle In The Air is a short and atmospheric track, which rebalances the overall complexity of the album.
- Inner Cell, an excellent experimental track, a sort of psychedelic jazz. Beautiful.
- Loyalty with 80s synths, easy listening.
- Horology is a progressive rock track, with complex time signatures and a nice drive.
- Searching with an exotic mood, one of my favorite tracks.
- Tetrachromacy and The Fourth Colour are conceptually linked to the concept of the “fourth colour”, very energetic and conveying positive emotions, of hope, and they do so through complex guitar parts and great drumming.
Great album with beautiful compositions of great psychedelic rock with jazz and world music influences. Spectacular album in every sense. A must-have.
