Frutti Per Kagua, a one-off (with the exception of two singles) by the early masters of progressive rock, Capitolo 6, from 1972, a concept album that, despite the band's origins in Rome, was based on Native American stories.
Capitolo 6 was an Italian progressive rock band formed in 1969 by the merger of members of two Tuscan bands, Gli Eremiti and I Rangers. After moving to Rome and undergoing lineup changes, they released their only album, Frutti per Kagua, in 1972. Their sound is often compared to that of Jethro Tull, with prominent use of flute and saxophone in a symphonic-rock style.
The band disbanded in 1972 due to limited commercial success; the band struggled to gain popularity, which led to the decision to disband. They also participated in several RCA compilations released worldwide for the 1972 Sanremo Music Festival. Some members participated in other short-lived musical projects. The album is a gem of Italian Prog.
Originally a rare and expensive album, it was later reissued for the much-maligned (by purists) De Agostini Italian Prog Rock collection, so even we "humble humans" have it on vinyl.
A classic of Italian progressive rock from a band of great musicians and masterful flute, guitar, and vocals. The album's limited commercial success led to the band's dissolution.
The sound shifts from hard rock to Crimson atmospheres with hints of Mediterranean music.
The title track occupies the entire A-side, about 22 minutes: the flute passages intertwine with guitars and keyboards. The vocals are exceptional, very expressive. The remaining tracks, while enjoyable, don't quite live up to the title track.
Further confirmation of the importance of Italian progressive rock, which produced bands that were as crucial to the development of the prog-rock genre as British bands.
If you're a collector or a lover of prog-rock, this classic of Italian progressive rock should have a place in your collection.
