Fire Fortellinger by Lars Fredrik Frøislie, his first solo album from 2023
We recently talked about Lars on the occasion of his splendid album Gamle Mester from 2025, and also about his participation in numerous solo projects, with the Wobbler, with White Willow but also with The Chronicles of Father Robin as well as for recent projects with Stefano "Lupo" Galifi from the legendary Museo Rosenbach on vocals, which are actually reinterpretations of this beautiful album.
Besides Lars, who plays all the instruments (Hammond C3, Mellotron M400, Minimoog D, Chamberlin M1, Hohner Clavinet D6, spinet, Yamaha electric piano, ARP Axxe and Pro Soloist synthesizers, Solina String Ensemble, Rhodes MKII, Wurlitzer 200, tremolo (zither), recorder, drums), the great bassist Nikolai Hængsle from Needlepoint also participates as a guest, for whom I have published reviews of two beautiful albums from their discography.
There are 4 tracks, two on each side, and two of these, “Rytter av dommedag” and “Naturens katedral,” are suites lasting over 16 minutes, an album of pure progressive rock
A beautiful record with lyrics in Nordic language perfectly adapted to the scores, which I consider a plus. A triumph of analog keyboards, harpsichord, Mellotron, Moog, Hammond organ, an instrumentation that made me relive splendid moments from the past but alive, indeed, revived in the present. From these sounds and seventies prog atmospheres interpreted with great mastery and taste, dense with refinements, an absolutely remarkable work.
A record that I love and will continue to listen to for a long time.
