"Sognando e risognando" by Formula 3, released in 1972.
An album produced by Lucio Battisti, who, with Mogol, also wrote the song "Storia di un uomo e di una donna" and two of the album's three suites. The first of these, titled "Sognando e risognando," was originally included, with a shorter duration, in Battisti's album "Umanamente uomo il sogno," released a few months earlier. The second suite, "Aeternum," was written by Battisti, Cicco, Lorenzi, and Radius.Â
Â
The other suite, titled "L'ultima foglia," was written solely by Cicco, Lorenzi, and Radius, the band members, who also handled all the arrangements.
Â
This is probably Formula 3's best work, but it blends progressive rock with a more mainstream classic rock style (not purely prog, but still not pop, more towards hard rock and blues). This occurs throughout the album, with the exception of the final track, "Aeternum," which is beautiful in my opinion, where both the songwriting and the technique of the individual pieces really shine.
Â
An album for enthusiasts looking to complete their Italian Progressive Rock collection.
