10,000 Days by Tool, 2006 album
Tool is an American alternative/progressive metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1990.
The original lineup and of this first EP consisted of Maynard James Keenan on vocals, Adam Jones on guitar, Paul D'Amour on bass (who left the group after contributing to their first album, Undertow, considering “Their creative process" … "agonizing and tedious” and was replaced by Justin Chancellor) and Danny Carey on drums, whom we recently saw involved in the beautiful project BEAT.
Their sound is a fusion of heavy metal, progressive metal, and alternative rock, which has given rise to masterpieces that have allowed them to win four Grammy Awards.
Released in 2006, five years after the masterpiece Lateralus, 10,000 Days is characterized by great complexity and overall outstanding performance, with a very inspired Danny Carey and his exceptional rhythmic changes.
It does not reach the levels of excellence of Lateralus and in some cases the technique takes over the structure of the songs.
It opens with two frighteningly powerful and beautiful tracks, the opening track Vicarious and the following Jambi, which tear up logic and turn it into music. Sounds that scratch. Off-beats, always top-notch bass, Keenan's voice at a very high level, breaking through while Danny Carey's rhythms are super technical and precise.
- Vicarious opens the album, it's an energetic track and immediately sets the dramatic tone of the record.
- Jambi is a complex track with a great vocal performance by Maynard James Keenan.
- Wings for Marie, Part 1 is the first part of a two-part suite that, with its second part 10,000 Days (Wings, Part 2), delivers a powerful and emotionally charged performance.
- The Pot is a track that is both elegant and powerful with a great vocal part by Maynard.
- Lipan Conjuring is a short instrumental that introduces the next track.
- Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) is a beautiful instrumental that introduces Rosetta Stoned
- Rosetta Stoned is a long and complex track with a beautiful arrangement.
- Intension, a soft track, a moment of calm that breaks the heavy mood of the album.
- Right In Two, a beautiful and very emotional track
- Viginti Tres closes the album, 5 minutes of “noises” and scattered sounds, an abstract ending.
An album that is pure art, including the artwork which, as always, amazes.
