Live E.P. EP live by Led Zeppelin Released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1975 album, Physical Graffiti.
The EP features tracks from "Physical Graffiti" performed live at the Earls Court concerts in 1975 and Knebworth in 1979. These tracks were previously released on the Led Zeppelin DVD/VHS double DVD set, and this is the first audio release.
Four well-known tracks, with a total running time of approximately 34 minutes, are my impressions of these versions.
"In My Time of Dying" (Live from Earls Court, 1975) is a slow and powerful piece at the beginning, with Page's sumptuous guitar playing creating the atmosphere in the syncopation, but then speeds up and becomes grandiose, with Plant's voice lower and more aggressive than usual and Page's solos, which are always at their best in live performances.
Trampled Under Foot (Live from Earls Court, 1975), hard and raw, with plenty of room for a fantastic organ solo by John Paul Jones, followed by Page's very psychedelic guitar solo, and finally Plant's vocals until the end.
Sick Again (Live from Knebworth, 1979) What power in this rocker with a catchy chorus that never loses its traction! John Bonham is great, with John Paul Jones on bass lending weight and richness to this song, in which Page mostly does his job, spinning the riff beautifully, before launching into one of his signature solos that spans every octave. Spectacular.
And then comes the imperious "Kashmir" (Live from Knebworth, 1979) with its perfect composition and the most iconic guitar and bass riff I know. A monstrous live performance by the entire band, but Plant definitely stands out here. A haunting, electrifying performance. John Bonham shows off his entire repertoire, with sweeping, lightning-fast drum rolls and his powerful feel.
The audio quality is excellent, but not excellent.
It's wonderful to see the "Fallen Angel Logo" return in a new edition. It's said to represent Apollo, the Greek god of light, music, and healing, while some sources claim it depicts Icarus, son of Daedalus, in the final moments of his life. Seeing it in a first edition in 2025 is quite an experience for anyone.
A must-have for all fans of the world's greatest rock band.
